Cape May Court House, New Jersey – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief Robert Regalbuto of the Wildwood Police Department announce the arrest of Jeremias Ortiz, 37 years old of Wildwood, New Jersey.
On July 14, 2021, the Wildwood Police Department Uniformed Patrol Division responded to the 200 East block of Roberts Ave for the report of a medical emergency. Upon arrival officers discovered the unresponsive body of Jason Ruiz, 38 years old of Wildwood, New Jersey.
A joint investigation was initiated by members of the Wildwood Police Department Detective Division and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office which ultimately led to the arrest of Jeremias Ortiz for the offenses of Murder, a crime of 1st degree; Aggravated Manslaughter, a crime of the 1st degree; Conspiracy to Commit Murder, a crime of the 1st degree; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, a crime of the 4th degree; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, a crime of the 3rd degree. *
The investigation revealed that this was a targeted attack and not a random act of violence and there is no need for public alarm.
