Cape May Court House, New Jersey – Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Lower Township Police Chief William Mastriani announce the arrest of Matthew Ecker of Linwood, New Jersey for Third Degree Crime of Tampering with a Witness and Fourth Degree Crime of Obstructing Administration of Law or Other Governmental Function.
Ecker was arrested following an investigation that revealed that in his capacity as Executive Director, at the Lower Township Municipal Utilities Authority he engaged in conduct which caused the intimidation of employees relating to an investigation involving the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office. Ecker was charged and subsequently released on his own recognizance. Additional charges are pending further investigation.
Persons convicted of a Third Degree Offense are subject to a sentence of 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison while Fourth Degree carry a maximum sentence of eighteen (18) months in New Jersey State Prison. Prosecutor Taylor and Chief Mastriani recognize the efforts of all of the agencies involved resulting in the successful conclusion of this investigation.
